We invite you to join us. Come help make a difference!
Our
members come from a wide range of backgrounds and interests. Many work
within some element of the broad criminal justice system, but we also
welcome those who simply want to get involved.
We
see ourselves providing linkages, through the sponsorship of various
events that enable professionals and others to gain new information or
knowledge; and that encourage cross professional networking among
individuals. We believe that such networking ultimately contributes
significantly to the effectiveness of the criminal justice system.
We
also see ourselves as independent, in the sense that we are not a
government agency. We believe we are in a position from which we are
able to provide commentary about criminal justice issues from a
perspective of "what works", rather than from a perspective in which we
have some self interest. Further, we believe that we can present to the
public an optional source of information about how the system works
without the perceived bias that government departments often need to
overcome.
Membership is acquired through the Canadian Criminal Justice Association. Their web site is www.ccja-acjp.ca . When you become a member of CCJA, you automatically become a member of BCCJA.
Please
check out the committee structure that we have created, and let us know
if you are interested in becoming a part of one of the committees. Like
most things, you will get out of BCCJA membership what you put into
it. All of our committee heads would welcome your interest!
We
monitor our email regularly, so please do not hesitate to contact us
that way. Otherwise, please feel free to contact any of our executive
directly.
